The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP)
The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) was established in 1990 and stands as the nation’s pioneering school choice voucher initiative. This program extends the opportunity to low and middle-income families residing in Milwaukee to enroll their children in private schools that would otherwise be financially out of reach, through the use of educational vouchers.
Eligibility for MPCP Students:
- Students must be residents of Milwaukee.
- Family income must not exceed 300% of the federal poverty level.
- There are no limitations on the number of students who can partake in the Milwaukee Parent Choice Program.
Scholarship Amounts for MPCP:
- For the 2022-2023 academic year, the voucher amounts were $8,399 for grades K-8 and $9,045 for grades 9-12.
- Starting in 2015, the voucher amount increases annually by an amount equivalent to the rise in state public school funding.
